Doeth Studio
Doeth is an independent design studio based in Scotland, specialising in inclusive and responsible design.
We work with organisations and communities to understand how services, systems and environments affect people's lives, where exclusion creates barriers and risks, and what needs to change for people to thrive.
We aim to reduce exclusion and harm while protecting people's safety, dignity and autonomy, and strengthening their choice, control and opportunities to live well.
What we do
Our work brings together four areas of expertise:
Inclusive and strategic design. Embedding inclusion across digital and physical services, systems, organisational strategy and governance.
Safety by Design. Understanding and reducing the risks and harms that exclusion can create.
Participatory research and co-design. Working with people and communities to understand patterns of need and shape better experiences.
Evaluation and independent review. Exploring what works, where barriers remain and what needs to change.
How we work
Our approach is grounded in the social model of disability and informed by systems thinking.
We look beyond individual experiences to understand how people, services, organisations and environments are connected, and how decisions in one part of a system can affect lives elsewhere.
Through participatory research, multi-disciplinary collaboration and visual methods, we make these connections visible, challenge assumptions and turn shared knowledge into practical recommendations that consider the wider consequences of change.
Our experience
Our work spans health and social care, financial services, government, culture and heritage, and the voluntary sector.
Clients and collaborators include Lloyds Banking Group, the NHS, the Scottish Government, SafeLives, the National Trust for Scotland and Iriss.
Why Doeth?
Doeth (pronounced 'doyth') means 'wise' in Welsh. The name reflects our founder's Welsh roots and belief in thoughtful, grounded design.
We believe wisdom grows through lived experience, shared knowledge and relationships.
This means listening, valuing different perspectives, staying curious and trusting our intuition. We recognise that understanding a problem means looking at the wider picture, questioning assumptions and considering how our decisions, actions and recommendations may affect others.
Work with us
Doeth works across the UK and beyond.
We lead projects directly and collaborate with trusted independent researchers, designers and specialists when needed.
